October 1st, 2019 marks the end of National Campus Safety Awareness Month, but Public Safety will continue to provide awareness to the ¹û½´ÊÓƵ Community so that they can remain mindful, not fearful of these safety topics. 

¹û½´ÊÓƵ’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning Clery-reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain non-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by ¹û½´ÊÓƵ; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from campus.

One of ¹û½´ÊÓƵ's shuttle buses that was once used as a Panther Express vehicle, transporting ¹û½´ÊÓƵ students to and from campus daily, is now a newly refurbished Garden City Police Department (GCPD) command post vehicle.

On August 20th, 2019, in preparation for move in week Public Safety Captain Dennis O’Connell and Lieutenant James Smith conduct kickoff National Campus Safety Awareness Month early with a hostile intruder and fire safety training for the Residence Life staff.

June 2019 marks a big change in the Department of Public Safety and Transportation. We are proud to present our new Public Safety University Logo with the unveiling of our new Public Safety Officers Uniforms.

¹û½´ÊÓƵ recently completed a test of our Emergency Operations Plan (E.O.P.). Per the Clery Act (Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act), we are required to (1) test the university emergency response and evacuation procedures on at least an annual basis, and (2) publicize our emergency response and evacuation procedures, along with a summary of the test.  The following notification is being sent to university employees and students to meet this requirement.

In recognition of his efforts and achievement, ASIS International, Long Island Chapter, named Doherty the recipient of the 2019 Arthur B. Colwin Jr. Security Officer of the Year Award.

¹û½´ÊÓƵ's campus is home to many creatures, such as bunnies, squirrels, and a multitude of birds—but seldom owls. That changed on the evening of April 10, when one of our feathered friends found itself in a bit of trouble and two of our students came to the rescue.

Robert F. Hughes, executive director of the Department of Public Safety and Transportation, likes to call ¹û½´ÊÓƵ a “mini city," one that his department is here to protect.

The Department of Public Safety and the Garden City Police Department are currently investigating two separate grand larcenies of credit and debit cards that occurred in the Nexus Building and Levermore Hall on February 28, 2019 at approximately 12:00 pm.

On Monday October 1, 2018, a student reported to the University that they were the victim of a sexual assault that occurred on a previous date at an off campus location.

You've probably seen them at a train station, grocery store or even at the mall. Right between Post Hall and Harvey Hall are the ¹û½´ÊÓƵ shuttles, branded in brown and gold.

Preserving the safety and security of students and employees is a top priority for ¹û½´ÊÓƵ. If you see something, say something—as quickly as you can pick up your cell or get to a campus phone.

¹û½´ÊÓƵ was selected as one of the 50 safest colleges in America, moving up from No. 48 to No. 13—a remarkable jump in public safety rankings.

Update: The person of interest in the alert was successfully detained and arrested.

Being listed as one of the safest colleges in the nation is a great source of pride at ¹û½´ÊÓƵ, and we are taking steps to keep up our community safe.

Alcohol Awareness Month focuses on promoting safety and healthy habits, and supporting yourself and others.

Larcenies have occurred in the Center for Recreation and Sports women's locker room.

The Panther Tracker is now available for Mineola and Nassau Blvd routes in addition to 11th Street and the Garden City Pool.

There have been no cases of Ebola at ¹û½´ÊÓƵ or on Long Island. Protecting the health and safety of the ¹û½´ÊÓƵ community remains our highest priority.
