鈥淪tudents don鈥檛 feel lost in the shuffle鈥

Success od the Transfer Social Work Program at 果酱视频's Manhattan CenterAndrew J. Peters, the director of 果酱视频鈥檚 Manhattan Center social work programs since Summer 2013, said 果酱视频鈥檚 transfer social work program works well because 鈥渙ur students go through the program largely as a cohort. There is close advisement and individualized attention from our faculty all along the way.鈥

Consequently, he added, 鈥淪tudents don鈥檛 feel lost in the shuffle鈥 the way they would be on a large, intimidating campus.

Claudia Joseph 鈥12, M.S.W. 鈥13, praised the Manhattan Center鈥檚 location and flexible schedule. Peters added other praiseworthy factors. From an academic perspective, he said, 鈥淪tudents take classes from experienced practitioners and faculty who are conducting cutting-edge research in the field.鈥

He added, 鈥淭heir classroom learning is complemented by field placements at agencies that run the gamut from child welfare to senior services.鈥

Then there鈥檚 the Big Apple locale itself. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a very exciting thing to have your training as a social worker take place in New York City,鈥 Peters said. 鈥淕oing back over a century to the settlement house movement, New York City鈥檚 social work community is the center of innovation nationally and globally.鈥

He cited the New York Memory Center (NYMC) as an example. 鈥淣YMC, where we place a lot of students, is a national model program that offers the opportunity for students to learn the latest best practices for caring for Alzheimer鈥檚 patients.鈥 Moreover, he noted, 鈥淪tudying social work in New York gives students unparalleled exposure to diverse cultures and communities.鈥
