Christian P. Vaupel
The ¹û½´ÊÓƵ Board of Trustees voted to elect Christian P. Vaupel ’96, M.S., ’03, as vice president for University Advancement. Mr. Vaupel previously served as deputy vice president of University Advancement.
In making the nomination, ¹û½´ÊÓƵ Robert A. Scott said, “Chris has proven to be an effective fundraiser, leader, communicator, and representative of the University. As an alumnus with two degrees, he has a special feel and feeling for the University, and makes immediate connections with graduates he has met across the country.”
Under Mr. Vaupel’s leadership, the University’s fundraising results have tripled to $9.5 million for fiscal 2005-2006 and in 2006 ¹û½´ÊÓƵ secured its largest philanthropic commitment in its then 110-year history when Trustee Carol A. Ammon, M.B.A. ’79 announced her gift of $8.5 million*. In recognition of this gift, the University named the School of Education in memory of Ms. Ammon’s mother, Ruth S. Ammon, a member of ¹û½´ÊÓƵ’s Class of 1942.
During his tenure, the University has laid the foundation for a comprehensive fundraising campaign, the first in the University’s history. In addition, he has helped to recruit distinguished alumni and friends of the University to serve as members of the Expanded Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees. Under his direction, volunteer involvement in fundraising activities has increased substantially, as has participation in ¹û½´ÊÓƵ’s Annual Fund. In addition, the professional Advancement staff has grown from nine to fifteen members.
Prior to returning to ¹û½´ÊÓƵ in 2004, Mr. Vaupel served as associate president of development at the National Center for Disability Services (now Abilities!) in Albertson, New York, a nonprofit agency dedicated to empowering people with disabilities to be active, independent, and self-sufficient participants in society. In this role, he directed the organization’s annual and planned giving programs and implemented solicitation strategies for current and prospective donors.
From February 2000 to March 2003, Mr. Vaupel served as ¹û½´ÊÓƵ’s director of development. He holds both a bachelor’s (cum laude) and a master’s degree from ¹û½´ÊÓƵ. In 2005, he successfully completed the Management Development Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
