Professor Raysa Amador organized a presentation by Dr. Nancy Ford: “Reconceptualizing Mothering: Women from Mexico Mothering Transnationally” as part of Immigration Week in Fall 2013. Thanks to a grant from Pragda, the Secretary of State for Culture of Spain, and its Program for Cultural Cooperation with United States’听Universities, the Spanish Film Club festival took place at 果酱视频 in Spring 2013. In May 2014, Professor Amador presented at Career Day at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, PS 7 in Brooklyn. Professor Amador also completed a textbook manuscript Lengua y vida which is ready for submission to publishers. 听

Professor Margaret Gray will be on sabbatical for the 2014-2015 academic year. is starting a new research project on labor trafficking in New York and eager to share her findings with students upon her return.

Professor Rakesh Gupta developed two fully online courses for the MS Health Informatics program. In April 2014, Professor Gupta presented 鈥淵our Money, Your Life鈥� for Mineola High School students and parents. Professor Gupta also worked with 果酱视频 international student teams on presentations which were presented at Wantagh High School. Presentations included: 鈥淓ast meets West鈥擟hina鈥� (April 2014); 鈥淓ast meets West鈥擲. Korea鈥� (March 2014); and 鈥淓ast meets West鈥擜ustralia鈥� (November 2013). In 2013, Professor Gupta served as an external evaluator for a Ph.D. Thesis entitled, 鈥淎nalytical Overview of Customer Behaviour Pertaining to Mid Size Cars in Oman,鈥� for a student at the Birla Institute of Technology in Ranchini, India.

Professor Katie Laatikainen was a plenary speaker at the European International Studies Association conference in Warsaw, Poland on 17 September 2013. This was the inaugural conference of the new European ISA. Her talk was entitled 鈥楳ultipolarity and the EU鈥檚 Approach to Multilateralism.鈥� At that conference she also presented a paper, 鈥業ntersecting or Diverging Multilateralism: Understanding the EU鈥檚 Relationship to the UN鈥� which has been revised for publication as a book chapter in the forthcoming Sage Handbook of European Foreign Policy (Sage 2015). Prof. Laatikainen is one of five editors of the two-volume, 60+ chapter Sage Handbook of European Foreign Policy. During spring 2014, Prof. Laatikainen worked on a book chapter, The EU Delegation at the UN in New York鈥� for a new edited volume by David Spence and Josef Batora, The European Union鈥檚 External Action: Changing the Face of European Diplomacy which will be听听听听听 published by Palgrave in 2015. She attended the International Studies Association conference in Toronto, Canada in March 2014, where she presented her paper 鈥楥onceptualizing Groups and Group Politics at the UN鈥� on the panel Group Dynamics in Multilateral Politics: Conceptualizing regional arrangements and issue-coalitions in the UN General Assembly. She also was asked to participate on the ISA Roundtable “The Spaces and Places of Multilateralism in Today’s World” where she discussed the divergence of EU and UN听听听 听听听听听听听听听听multilateralism. In September 2014, Prof. Laatikainen will travel to Cork, Ireland to present new research on Single Issue Groups听 at the UN at the Academic Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES)听 Conference.

Professor Nicole Rudolph assumed the directorship of the International Studies program in Fall 2013. In December 2013, she was asked to serve as a member of the inaugural Board of Visitors for the University Honors College at the University of Pittsburgh. In March 2014 she attended the annual meeting of the International Studies Association in Toronto, and in April 2014 she chaired a panel on large-scale state-sponsored modernization in postwar France at the Society for French Historical Studies in Montreal, Canada. She gave a paper, “The Rise of the Jardin d’hiver: The Effect of the Grenelle de l’environnement on French Ideas of Home” at the Society for French Studies conference in Aberdeen, Scotland in July 2014. She has an article, “Model Homes: Negotiating Interiors in Postwar France,” forthcoming in the journal Interiors: Design, Architecture, Culture, 5.2 (2014), and her book, At Home in Postwar France: Modern Mass Housing and the Right to Comfort, will be published by Berghahn Books in April 2015.

Professor Rakhel Villamil-Acera published a book chapter entitled 鈥淧edro帽oz(1881-1936):鈥� for the book, Spanish and Portuguese Across Time, Space, and Borders. Studies in Honour of Milton M. Azevedo, published by Palgrave MacMillan in 2014. She also presented this chapter at the University of California, Berkeley in April 2014. In June 2014, Professor Villamil-Acera鈥檚 article 鈥�”隆Qu茅 divertido es divorciarse!: la desentimentalizaci贸n del divorcio en el teatro madrile帽o antes y despu茅s de la Segunda Rep煤blica” was published in Hispania. Professor Villamil-Acera presented a paper, 鈥淰anguardia y humor en Cuatro corazones con freno y marcha atr谩s (Enrique Jardiel Poncela),鈥� at the XIV Annual Conference of the International Society for Luso-Hispanic Humor Studies in October 2013.

Professor Monica Yang presented at the annual conference of Academy of International Business in June 2014. Presentations included; Ownership participation and market value of cross-border mergers and acquisitions by emerging market firms; Chinese cross-border M&A in advanced economies: Antecedents and implications; and Cross-border Mergers and Acquisitions by Emerging Market MNCs:A Comparative Perspective. Professor Yang also authored a chapter in the book, Economic Integration across the Taiwan Strait in Global Perspective, entitled 鈥淐ross-border Mergers and Acquisitions by China in Taiwan 1997-2010.鈥� The book was edited by P. Chow and published by Edward Elgar in 2013.
