Dr. Miranda-Diaz, the director of the West New York Health Department, hopes to be a role model for future Latina nurses.

Dr. Gina Miranda-Diaz ’83, director of the West New York (New Jersey) Health Department, was one of only 10 nurses nationwide named a for her her innovative approach to public health听by the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, a joint initiative of AARP, the AARP Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. In her role, Dr.听Miranda-Diaz is responsible for the public health of the town of West New York and its 57,000 residents.听Since 2014 she has been a member of New Jersey State Board of Nursing. In addition, she has served as the vice president of the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses and will take the position of president in 2016.

Dr. Miranda-Diaz told The Hudson Reporter that she hoped to be a role model for future Latina nurses. 鈥淭here are very few Latina nurses,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 wanted to have an impact. I was the first person in my family to go to college. I am the first nurse in my family.
