This was a banner year for Honors seniorsÌýand graduate school admissions.
This past spring, Nikolay Iliev ’09Ìýbecame our first Honors alumnus to graduate from HarvardÌýLaw School. But the Honors College presence thereÌýwill remain steady as Elina Kats ’11, in her second year atÌýHarvard Law, is joined this fall by John Miller ’12. OurÌýapplicants were admitted to so many top law schools thatÌýthey arrived at their final decisions with great difficulty.ÌýIn the end, it looks as though Scott Lipschitz ’12 will beÌýheaded for law school at NYU; Joanne Joseph ’12 will beÌýat Emory University and Philip DiSanto ’12 (this year’sÌýSGA president) at Columbia University.
Vivek Singh ’09 continues hisÌýdoctoral studies in engineeringÌýat MIT. He will be joined thisÌýfall by Justin Dove ’12, who alsoÌýwill pursue his doctorateÌýin engineering.
¹û½´ÊÓƵ Honors alumni haveÌýestablished quite a presence atÌýColumbia University in physicsÌýand engineering. This comingÌýyear, James Olsen will studyÌýelectrical engineering and EricÌýde la Haba will study operationalÌýengineering in the Fu SchoolÌýof Engineering. They will joinÌýZhewei Jiang and AnthonyÌýKolodzinski who are completingÌýthe joint program there. ZheweiÌýis doing research on harvestingÌýbio-cellular energy to powerÌýmicroelectronic chips. Anthony,Ìýin the mechanical engineeringÌýprogram, is currently working inÌýthe optical nanostructures lab,Ìýbuilding a laser. Brian CapozziÌý’10 will be entering his thirdÌýyear at Columbia as a doctoralÌýstudent in applied physics. He is focusing his research onÌýtransport properties throughÌýsingle molecules with a view toÌýthe further miniaturization ofÌýelectronic devices.
Other recent alumni headedÌýfor graduate study includeÌýAnthony Fazio ’12 who will beÌýdoing work in computer scienceÌýat Cornell University and AlyssaÌýGrieco ’12 who has been admittedÌýto a highly selective programÌýin architectural preservation atÌýColumbia. Amanda DelGiaccoÌý’12, admitted to every competitiveÌýprogram in communicationÌýsciences and disorders, has decidedÌýto pursue her graduate work atÌýNew York Medical College.ÌýSeveral of these seniors asÌýwell as some others can be seenÌýin video profiles on the HonorsÌýCollege website atÌýacademics.adelphi.edu/honors-college.
