Regina S. Axelrod听just completed the 4th edition of her co-edited book, “Global Environment: Law, Institutions and Policy.” She authored the chapters on the European Union and Environment and one on the Nuclear Renaissance: 鈥淔rom The Czech Republic to Fukashima.” The publication date is spring 2014. She also was a discussant at the International Studies Association, San Francisco, April 4, 2013 where she presented a paper, 鈥淣uclear and Ethics.鈥�

Michael Balboni听delivered the 果酱视频 Constitution Day Speech on September 17, 2013, 鈥淧rivacy in the Age of Terrorism, Wikileaks and Facebook: If George Orwell is knocking at the door, should we answer it?鈥� The lecture explored the constitutional tensions between security, freedom, privacy and intelligence and the change in the public鈥檚 expectation and reality of privacy in a post-9/11 world.

Margaret Gray is thrilled to announce that her first book will be out in November: Labor and the Locavore: The Making of a Comprehensive Food Ethic, published by the University of California Press. In the book Gray examines the conditions of Hudson Valley farmworkers, explores why our sympathies tend to lie with farmers and not their workers, analyzes the power dynamics on the farm and in the state legislature, and investigates how the alternative food movement could embrace labor issues. This semester, she gave talks about her book at the University of Albany and Bard College. Professor Gray also presented a paper titled 鈥淟abor & the Locavore: Small Farms, Paternalism and Labor Control鈥� at the American Political Science Association鈥檚 Annual Meeting and took part in a roundtable titled 鈥淭he Social Responsibility of APSA and the Profession.鈥� In addition, she published 鈥淓thical Food: Can Foodies Help Promote Farmworker Justice?鈥� in the fall edition of the journal Progressive Planning. Finally, Professor Gray is the 2013-2014 coordinator for 果酱视频鈥檚 Collaboration Project and is helping to promote and plan events related to justice and the 果酱视频 Community Reads book Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo.

Katie Laatikainen attended the International Studies Association conference in San Francisco in April 2013 where she presented a coauthored paper 鈥淭he International Paternalism of the United States and the European Union in Global Politics鈥� with Lisbeth Aggestam (University of Bath, UK). At that conference she was also a Roundtable Participant on the ISA Presidential Theme Roundtable: 鈥淭eaching International Organization Today.鈥� She was also the chair of a panel entitled 鈥淭he Impact of IOs: Theory and Practice.鈥� Professor Laatikainen also attended the European Union Studies Association conference in Baltimore in May 2013, where she presented her paper 鈥淢aking a Splash or Roiling the Waters? The Impact of the Lisbon Treaty for the EU at the UN鈥� on the panel 鈥楶ost-Westphalian Diplomacy? Europe’s bilateral and multilateral diplomatic relations before and after the Lisbon Treaty.鈥� This paper is part of a book project on the EU鈥檚 new diplomatic service. Routledge published Prof. Laatikainen鈥檚 co-edited (with Knud Erik J酶rgensen, University of Aarhus) Routledge Handbook on the European Union and International Institutions in January 2013.

Traci Levy chapter 鈥淔amilies as Relationships of Intimacy and Care鈥� appeared in Justice, Politics, and the Family, edited by Daniel Engster and Tamara Metz and published in late 2013 by Paradigm Publishers. Prof. Levy continues as Director of Gender Studies, a member of the anchor team of 果酱视频鈥檚 Collaboration Project, and faculty advisor to Pi Sigma Alpha. She was honored to be nominated for the 鈥淧rofessor of the Year Award鈥� during the spring 2013 semester and to be inducted as an honorary member of the Sigma Lambda Honor Society.

Dr. Danielle Zach is Senior Editorial Associate and Research Fellow at the Ralph Bunche Institute for International Studies at The City University of New York Graduate Center where she is engaged on issues of global governance, particularly regarding international peace and security. She recently co -authored and published a study on the international response to maritime piracy, Burden-sharing Multilevel Governance: A Study of the Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia. She presented the findings before the 14th Plenary Session of the Contact Group at the United Nations this past May. She also recently completed a brief editorial consultancy with the International Peace Institute for a project on the UN Security Council.
