For more information, see the Emergency Operations Plan Appendix 2.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Know the locations of building exits, evacuation routes and assembly points.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Know locations of areas of refuge for mobility-challenged individuals who may not be able to exit the building.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Be aware of locations that are likely to have visitors or individuals who may need assistance during an emergency.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Be familiar with the building alarm system to accurately interpret alarms.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Know the location of pull stations and fire extinguishers.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Participate in fire drills as performed by Public Safety.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Know at least two ways out of the building.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Evacuation Warden\u2019s Role<\/h2>\n<p>When a fire alarm sounds or an emergency requires a building evacuation, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/safety-transportation\/emergency-protocols\/response-teams\/volunteer\/\">volunteer fire\/evacuation wardens<\/a>\u2019 protective actions include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Fire\/Evacuation Wardens should encourage occupants to walk quickly to the nearest marked exit and evacuate safely<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Follow the directions of the First Responders and\/or Public Safety Officers.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Direct mobility-challenged persons to follow their individual plans and\/or direct them to an area of refuge.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">As you walk toward the nearest exit, call out, knock on doors, close doors as you pass as you evacuate<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">If fire or smoke is observed, wardens must immediately discontinue activities and safely evacuate before the space becomes unsafe. (As a general rule, wardens should not fight fires or use fire extinguishers except for egress safety).<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Once outside, proceed to a clear and safe area at least 150 feet (half a football field) from the building.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Keep walkways clear for emergency vehicles and assist Public Safety Officers with additional tasks.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Report names\/location(s) of person(s) in need of assistance to the Incident Command\/Public Safety Officer. An Incident Command Post (ICP) will be established near the emergency site by the Department of Public Safety.\u00a0 <strong>Do not reenter the building<\/strong>\u00a0until you are told to do so by the Incident Command or a member of the Public Safety Department.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adelphi.edu\/safety-transportation\/report-a-crime\/\">Report any suspicious person or emergency<\/a> to Public Safety<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Protective Actions Assist in alerting all persons to safely evacuate.
